The Horses

The Tennessee Walking Horse began to evolve around the 1700s.  It is a composite of several breeds including the Canadian Pacer, the Narragansett Pacer (which is currently extinct), the Morgan, the Saddle Horses and several gaited Spanish breeds.  The Tennessee Walking Horse of yesteryear plowed the fields during the week or was comfortable enough that the rider could supervise the operation of a plantation all day, pull a wagon to town for supplies on Saturday and took the family to church on Sunday.  The Tennessee Walking Horse is a true breed (as opposed to a color or type of motion).

Today's aging population is choosing the Tennessee Walking Horse more and more for trail riding because of its comfortable natural gaits, gentle even disposition, intelligence, size, color and conformation.  In addition to the feature of other horses, the Tennessee Walking Horse has the flat walk, running walk and canter like no other horse.  It is truly the most wonderful ride of your life.

All of the horses at The Farm can be traced back to the original Tennessee Walking Horse foundation horses.
