"Manners never cost you anything"

Born on this property June 8, 1919, Nannie Lue never forgot her origin.  She would always have a story to tell about this land and the things that happened here.  She was also proud to be a Virginian.

Peaches do not get any fresher than when you pick one from the tree and bite into it.  Guinea fowl is used instead of herbicides to control insects on The Farm.  When walking or riding around The Farm sooner or later you will visit the peach orchard.  A section of the boundary trail will take you past the Nannie Peach Orchard.  This area has been stripped of  trees.  The stumps are being removed and the hill graded.  Mulch was place around the trees minimize erosion and control moisture.

Twelve initial peach trees of several varieties was been planted in the spring of 2009.  An additional thirty eight additional trees will be planted as the ground is cleared and prepared.  The peach orchard will provide flowering trees in the spring and in a few short years provide fruit for the late summer and early fall.  The primary purpose of the peach orchard is to feed the local wildlife.  This does not prevent anyone from picking a fresh peach during their walk around The Farm.  There will be a twenty to thirty foot opening between the peach orchard and the pear orchard.

The peach orchard was started on March 12, 2007.  It is expected to be completed by the fall of 2010.  The largest problem is the removal of stumps and the control of erosion. The stumps were removed in August of 2009.  The ground was prepared in September of 2009.  Tree planting has begun and will continue until the fall of 2010.
